Competition

The Andrei Stenin International Photo Contest is an annual contest for young photojournalists aged between 18 and 33 years old. It is Russia’s only platform for discovering new photojournalists and for allowing them to make a name for themselves on the world photojournalism stage. 

The 2016 contest was showcase five categories for which young photographers can vie for awards:

1. Top News. Important events in the life of individuals and nations as a whole are the main subject of entries in the category: major political and social events; reports from war zones and places struck by natural disasters; decisive moments in people’s lives.
2. My Country. This category involves entries reflecting issues connected with national traditions and the modern life of the author’s country; its history, culture and everyday life.
3. Sports. This category involves entries, which captured moments in sport: victories of athletes and dramatic losses; daily sports training; the beauty of sports competitions.
4. World Colors. Harmony of Life. This category involves entries reflecting the entire multicolored palette of topics and images from all over the world. The author’s task is to show an everyday life kaleidoscope in its timeless beauty and harmony, uniting scenes from everyday life; the life of big cities and small towns; nature pictures; ethnographic and religious holidays. 
5. Portrait. A Hero of Our Time. This category involves entries such as individual or group portraits of people. Photos can be documentary and posed. The determining factor in this category is the author’s ability to reveal the inner world of his characters, express their mental qualities and character through the uniqueness of their appearance and looks as a whole.

 

Jury 2016


The 2016 contest was the largest ever since its establishment.The jury had to choose from among 6,000 entries by young photojournalists from 71 countries, including Russia.

Winners 2016

 

The awards ceremony, where the winner of the most important award in the competition – the Grand Prix was  announced, took place in Moscow on August 30, 2016, and it  coincided with the opening ceremony of the related exhibition.

Winning photograps have been shown in Moscow, Istanbul, Cape Town, Cairo, Shanghai and Beijing, Rome, Berlin, Maribor and Ljubljana.

 

The Grand Prix prize in the 2016 contest went to Italian photographer Danilo Garcia Di Meo for a photo series about paralyzed young woman, Letizia. The series won the hearts of the jury and, as a result, Letizia made her first ever foreign trip to Russia where she could tell her story in person and inspire those many people who live a similar life.
