MOSCOW, February 21, Rossiya Segodnya press service. – The prize fund of the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest, organized by Rossiya Segodnya under the patronage of Russia’s Commission for UNESCO, has been increased, thanks to international media partners: the pan-Arab information holding Al Mayadeen TV, the Shanghai United Media Group and the International Committee of the Red Cross. Thus, 2017 prize winners will receive over $15,000 (according to the Bank of Russia exchange rate on February 21), and the Grand Prix winner will receive around $8,000 (according to the Bank of Russia exchange rate on February 21).

The contest is open to participants between the ages of 18 and 34. Entries are accepted at stenincontest.com until March 22, 2017. The 2017 contest will include four categories in which young photographers can compete: Top News, Sports, My Planet and Portrait: A Hero of Our Time.

"We have decided to award a special prize for Humanitarian Photography in the Breaking News category to the authors of those pictures that highlight the need to assist the victims of conflicts and also the efforts of those trying to alleviate their suffering. Ensuring dignity of the depicted people  will be one of the most important criteria for selection.  For us as, an organization with more than 150 years of  humanitarian action in the field, it is of utmost importance that the pictures of the victims of conflicts demonstrate resilience of those people and their ability to overcome hardships if there is support.", said Magne Barth, the Head of the ICRC Regional Delegation in the Russian Federation, Belarus and Moldova.

Salem Abdel Munem, head of the Al Mayadeen television network, previously said that “the winning photo must show that the human being is the supreme value, he is the master of this planet and must treasure it, its diversity and any form of life on Earth.”

President of Shanghai United Media Group said: “Shanghai United Media Group supports young people in the search for their perfect news, and hopes to see more extraordinary young photographers benefiting from such contacts and demonstrating their talent thanks to this project.”
