Andrei Stenin Photo Contest Exhibition Opens in Beijing

BEIJING, December 18, Rossiya Segodnya Press Service. An exhibition of works by the winning photographers of the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest has opened in China’s capital, Beijing, as part of the contest’s Chinese tour. The annual photojournalism contest is organized by the Rossiya Segodnya media group under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO. In late October and early November, the 2017 winning photos were displayed in Shanghai. Starting on December 18, they will be on show at the Russian Center for Science and Culture (building 2, 9 (NAGA) Dongzhimen Inner Street, Dongcheng Qu, Beijing). The exhibition will be open on weekdays from 9 am to 6 pm. Admission is free.

Among the dozens of remarkable images of the Beijing exhibition is a heart-wrenching portrait of a boy from the slums in Nairobi by Chinese photographer Yiheng Cheng*, the elegant photo “Selfie Culture” by Jelena Jankovic** from Serbia, the genre portrait “Candy Floss Lady” captured by Kyrgyz photographer Tabyldy Kadyrbekov***, the colorful ethnic image “Widow Holi” by India’s Shashi Shekhar Kashyap****, a photo documentary about a modern hermit who chose to live away from big cities called “Alternative Reality” by Russian photographer Pavel Volkov***** and many others.

The exhibition is part of the international tour of the Andrei Stenin Photo Contest for young photo journalists’ winners. Shanghai United Media Group (SUMG) and the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Beijing are the partners of the events in China. The goal of the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest is to support young photographers and raise public awareness of modern photography and its purpose. The competition gives an opportunity to talented, sensitive and open-minded photographers to draw public attention to the events around us.

The contest’s 2017 international partners include: Al Mayadeen TV,  Shanghai United Media Group (SUMG) and ICRC.
