MOSCOW, January 31, Rossiya Segodnya Press Service. – More than 30 photos are sent in every day to the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest<stenincontest.com> established by Rossiya Segodnya under the patronage of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO. In the first month of the submission period, the organizers received over 1,000 photos from almost 40 countries across the globe. That is twice as many as during the same period last year, which gives good reason to believe that the competition for the prize will reach a whole new level.

Entries can be submitted on stenincontest.com. Photojournalists aged between 18 and 33 can take part and the closing date for submitting their entries is February 28, 2018. The contest is Russia’s only platform that discovers new names in international photojournalism and develops quality standards for documentary photography. The purpose of the contest is to support young photojournalists and open doors for them into a big photography career.

Photojournalists from Russia, India, Kenya, Bangladesh, Palestine, Serbia, Turkey, the US, Great Britain, Iran, Malaysia, South Africa, China, Belarus, Moldova and Kazakhstan were the most active: they submitted the majority of photos. Top News is the most popular category; there are also a lot of ethnic sketches and portraits, where contestants experiment with various techniques and genres.

2018 contestants will compete in four categories. They are Top News, Sports, My Planet, and Portrait. A Hero of Our Time. The number of entries allowed in each category has been extended to three, which allows young photographers to fully demonstrate their professionalism. The jury will select three prize winners in each category and award a Grand Prix.
