MOSCOW, February 21, Rossiya Segodnya Press Office. – Young photojournalists from Saudi Arabia, Myanmar, Costa Rica and Ruanda are taking part in the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest for the first time. They presented stylish black-and-white portraits as well as bright macro- and landscape photographs and images of national holidays to the expert jury of the contest established by Rossiya Segodnya under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO. The ‘My Planet’ and ‘Top News’ categories are still leading all categories.
Entries can be submitted at stenincontest.com, where 2,000 photographs made by young photojournalists from more than 50 countries can be found.
The most active Russian photojournalists are from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Yaroslavl, Tula, Voronezh and Smolensk and send mostly black-and-white portraits. There are also many photojournalists from Asia, including Bangladesh, India and Iran. The pictures they submit are based on bright ethnic culture and landscapes.
There is a bit more than a week until registration closes: photojournalists from anywhere, aged 18–33 can submit an entry until February 28. The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest is the only platform in Russia that is used to discover new names in international photojournalism and to create quality criteria for documentary photos.
The 2018 contest will offer four categories in which young photographers can vie for awards: Top News, Sports, My Planet, and Portrait. A Hero of Our Time. The number of entries for each category has been increased to three to give young photographers more opportunities to demonstrate their professionalism. The jury will choose the best three entries and the winner of the Grand Prix in each category.
In 2017, the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest was supported by major Russian and international media outlets, news agencies as well as the photo community. Partners in several categories included the Shanghai United Media Group (SUMG), the Al Mayadeen TV pan-Arabic news holding and the International Red Cross Committee, one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations.
