MOSCOW, April 25, Rossiya Segodnya Press Office, − The international jury of the Andrei Stenin Press Photo Contest, organized by Rosiya Segodnya with support of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, has begun selecting the best photographs of 2018. The jury, which consists of representatives of the world’s leading news agencies, is headed by Ahmet Sel, visual news editor-in-chief for Anadolu Agency, Turkey’s largest and oldest news agency.
From over 6,000 works by young reporters from all over the world, experts will pick winners in the four categories: Top News; Sports; My Planet; and Portrait: A Hero of Our Time. They will also select the winner of the Grand Prix.
The number of works in each category in 2018 has been increased to three, which gives young photographers even more opportunities to show off their professional skills. To support talented journalists at the start of their careers, the prize fund was almost doubled as compared to 2017 and now is 100,000 rubles, 75,000 rubles and 50,000 rubles for the first, second and third place in each of the categories. The Grand Prix winner will receive 700,000 rubles.
The list of winners will be published on May 22 on the stenincontest.com website. The winner of the Grand Prix will be announced in fall 2018, and an exhibition of the winners will open in Moscow at the same time.
The 2018 Andrei Stenin Photo Contest jury head Ahmet Sel: “First of all, I want to wish good luck to all the contestants. As a jury member, I’m pleased to be working with such competent professionals. After the first day, I can already say that the jury will have very intense debates about the winners. Photojournalism is a very difficult job, especially early on in one’s career. I’m glad that the contest provides a platform for young reporters to get support from professionals, gain confidence and show their talents to the world.”
The jury also includes Honorary President of the China Photographers Association and President of the Chinese Women Photographers Association Wang Yao; Deputy Director of Photography at the Notimex Mexican News Agency Jorge Árciga Avila; Russian photojournalist, former head of the Photo Service at the Kommersant Publishing House Pavel Kassin; Agence France-Presse (AFP) special photo correspondent Mladen Antonov; founder and director of the independent Russian photo agency SALT IMAGES Anna Zekria, and Ivan Sekretarev, a photo reporter with 20 years of experience and former photographer at the Associated Press (AP) Moscow bureau.
