The Festival of Ethical Photography was born in 2010 from the idea of Gruppo Fotografico Progetto Immagine, a non-profit association founded 30 years ago in Lodi, Italy with the intention of focusing on ethical content of great relevance. Thanks to a rich program of exhibitions by international and award-winning photojournalists, there are meetings, educational programs, workshops, portfolio reviews, video-projections, book presentations and numerous other events that investigate the relationship between ethics, communication and photography.
This event, which aims to promote photography as a tool of knowledge and in-depth analysis through different modes and methods, has seen a growing appreciation year after year, giving great international exposure to the work of committed photojournalists.
In 2011 the Festival started the World. Report Award|Documenting Humanity. This award aims at a new form of social commitment through photography. It gives attention to works focusing on people and their social and cultural stories. The WRA is intended to economically support the photographers who are actively engaged in this sector of photography providing a platform to get international exposure, reaching a wider audience and raising awareness on stories that matter.
Since its first year, the Festival of Ethical Photography has also given particular attention to the use of photography by those organizations that deal with social issues. For this reason, there is a special section dedicated to the nonprofit world that is reserved for the presentation of photographic works commissioned to photographers by nonprofit organizations.
