Plotnikova was born in 1984 in Russia. She graduated from the Faculty of Philology at the Moscow City Teacher Training University, as well as from the Department of Photojournalism at Lomonosov Moscow State University. She has been working as a professional photographer since 2006. Plotnikova concentrates on sports and documentary photography. She has been employed by ProSport, Photo & Video, Russian Newsweek, Montly Photo (South Korea), Lenta.ru, as well as the newspapers Izvestia, Moskovskie Novosti, Novaya Gazeta, Sovetsky Sport, Sport Dnyom za Dnyom, Sport Express, etc. She is currently a freelance photographer.
