Stenin Contest exhibition opens in San Juan, Argentina

Stenin Contest exhibition opens in San Juan, Argentina
SAN JUAN, April 18 – RIA Novosti. More than two dozen works by the winners of the 2022 Andrei Stenin Press Photo Contest can be viewed at the Alfonsina Storni Public Library in San Juan, the capital of the San Juan Province in western Argentina, starting from April 17.
The exhibition in the public library will be held through April 23. Next, the exhibition will move to the National University of San Juan, where it will be displayed until the beginning of May, at the departments of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
The exhibition in Argentina opened with the support of the contest’s partners: Ahora San Juan and the Ideas Foundation to promote equality. Entrance to the exhibition is free of charge.
The works displayed at the exhibition includes single photos and series of images by reporters from India, Russia, Italy, Guatemala and Iran, among other countries. This is the fifth time the contest comes to Argentina: three times the winners’ works were exhibited in the Argentinian capital, Buenos Aires, and also at the Senate in La Plata, the capital of the Buenos Aires Province.
In her address at the opening ceremony, President of the San Juan University Federation Manuela Jimenez said:
“For us, as students, it is a great privilege to take part in an internationally recognized photo exhibition. The fact that it is being held in the public library of the Rawson District is especially important to us. We are participating in the project because we can pass it on and display the photos at the National University of San Juan. Our idea is that students, in addition to academic training, must have access to arts and culture that enrich other dimensions of their lives.”
Daniela Albarez, Ahora San Juan Editor-in-Chief:
“The goal of photojournalism is to capture the moment, the event and the character, but I think that these works go beyond that: they manage to convey emotions and take us to the most remote corners of the world, giving us aesthetic pleasure. Photography has become an art, and this art reflects different cultures. It is very important for us as a media outlet to help promote, transmit and preserve this timeless art.”
Jorge Lorenzo, President of the IDEAS Foundation:
“Equality between countries and cultures means recognizing each other’s differences and respecting each other as equals. This exhibition, which we are very proud to present, provides an insight into places in different parts of the world that tell us that there are many points of view on our multicultural and multipolar planet. This is fresh air and colorful life, as opposed to the gray mandate of those who dictate a single cultural hegemony for the planet.”
