The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest and Sputnik’s hub in New Delhi organized a SputnikPro session for students from ten Indian universities. The event brought together over 200 participants with Rossiya Segodnya serving as its venue.
The workshop focused on what it means to be a photojournalist, visual storytelling and the importance of taking part in photo contests for young creators. Speakers included Rossiya Segodnya’s Photography Director, Alexander Shtol, Advisor at the Integrated Directorate of Photography Grigory Dukor, as well as the directorate’s Senior Editor Yekaterina Volkova.
In his presentation, Alexander Shtol talked about the inner workings of the photography desk in a news agency. Grigory Dukor explained how photos change depending on the media platform and elaborated on visual storytelling principles. Yekaterina Volkova took the floor to talk about the Stenin Contest’s history, and highlighted the successful track record of its participants from India and the way winning an award benefits future professionals.
The workshop’s audience included students from K R Mangalam University, Delhi Metropolitan Education college, Sharda University, JIMS, University of Kerala, the South Campus of the Delhi University, IMS Unison University, Central University of Rajasthan, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University, and University of Jammu and Kashmir.
“India is above all a country of young talent. It is not surprising that young photographers from India are shortlisted by the Stenin International Contest every year. The fact that a record number of people attended today’s workshop demonstrates that photography enjoys positive momentum. I hope that we succeeded in inspiring them to take up this profession and will receive their entries for this year’s edition of the contest,”
Head of Sputnik India, Olga Dycheva, pointed out.
The feedback from the workshop participants was also positive. Dr. Pranta Pratik Patnaik from the Central University of Rajasthan praised the session by expressing his conviction that this interesting meeting has sparked interest toward photography among Indian students.
