Rio de Janeiro hosts Andrei Stenin Contest roadshow for the first time
Brazil is hosting an exhibition of the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest winners for the first time. Fifty-five winning works will be on display at the Centro Carioca de Fotografia in Rio de Janeiro until July 17. The opening ceremony was attended by members of Russia’s Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, head of the Brazilian Photography Federation Carlos Gandara, and member of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies Jandira Feghali.
Director of the Centro Carioca de Fotografia Renata Xavier spoke about the significance of the event:

“It is a great honor for us to host the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest at the Centro Carioca de Fotografia. This is the first international exhibition held at this venue within the Reviver cultural revival program organized by the Rio de Janeiro Mayor’s Office. It is also the first time that this contest has been on display in Brazil. It is an excellent opportunity for Brazilian photographers to learn more about this contest. These deeply touching photographs demonstrate the part of the world that is rarely seen in the West. Images have a unique power to transcend boundaries and unite different peoples through the universal language of photography. We don’t need translation to see and feel other people’s experiences. Empathy and the meeting of cultures are extremely important in the modern world with its numerous conflicts.”

Acting Consul General of Russia Dmitry Pentin congratulated the Stenin Contest on expanding its borders, thanked the hosts for their hospitality and interest in the contest, and stressed that “the contest is a unique platform offering young photographers an opportunity to prove themselves and win their first awards.”
The event was supported by the contest’s media partner, Brasil de Fato.
The 2025 roadshow of the contest, which started in Russia, has already visited Serbia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Tanzania.
